Priceless Sparkle: A Guide to Jewelry Care and Craftsmanship

Regular and proper care is vital for your precious jewelry to maintain its sparkle and value.

  1. Cosmetics and Chemicals: You should keep your jewelry away from chemicals such as perfume, hairspray, creams, lotions, cleaning products and especially chlorine.
  2. Order of Use: Wearing your jewelry after completing your personal care routine minimizes chemical contact. At the end of the day, you should make your jewelry the first accessory to be removed.
  3. Physical Protection: It is advisable to remove your jewelry during physical activities such as sports, cleaning, heavy work or swimming (pool, sea) to protect against scratches, impacts and loosening of the mount (stone setting).
  4. Frequency: Diamond jewelry that is used daily can be cleaned once a month, and those that are rarely used can be cleaned every three months.

Home Cleaning Methods

Warm Soapy Water Method (Safest Method):Fill a bowl with warm water and add a few drops of mild liquid dishwashing detergent to make a cleaning solution.Soak your jewelry in this solution for 15 to 20 minutes. This will help to soften any accumulated dirt and oil residue.Using a soft-tipped toothbrush (a baby toothbrush is ideal), gently scrub the jewelry. Focus especially on hard-to-reach areas such as the underside of the stones and around the mount.Rinse the jewelry under lukewarm water and make sure all suds are removed.Dry gently with a soft lint-free cloth or microfiber cloth. You can use special jewelry polishing cloths to enhance the shine.

Baking soda and salt water method:Prepare a solution by mixing a glass of warm water, a teaspoon of salt and a teaspoon of baking soda. The jewelry should be left in this mixture for 10 minutes and then cleaned with a soft brush.

Professional Maintenance:Professional maintenance is recommended once a year.Ask your jeweler to check the stability of the mounting during cleaning. If your stone does not look stable, it should be repaired immediately.

Correct Containment

Store your jewelry in jewelry boxes with separate compartments or soft fabric pouches to prevent scratching.Keep jewelry away from moisture and direct sunlight.
